Joseph F. McQuiston December 11, 1948 - August 22, 2026

Joseph was born in West Philadelphia before moving to Norwood.  He attended Interboro High School. He received his Associate’s Degree in Electronic Engineering from Pennsylvania Institute of Technology, graduating magna cum laude. He earned his Bachelors of Science in Computer Science from Neumann University. In 1984 he became faculty at Pennsylvania Institute of Technology teaching classes in computer operating systems, computer architecture and networking. He went on to become the director of computer operations and the chair of the computer technology division at the school.  He later became faculty at CHI Institute. He often taught community classes and community college classes focusing on technology and computers. Joseph also served as a Committeeman for the Democratic Party of Middletown Township.

Joseph’s appreciation for learning and teaching extended beyond the classroom. He taught his children and grandchildren to be curious, always ask questions, and never stop learning. Looking at the night sky or walking through the woods often turned into a beautiful lesson about science and nature. Though he faced many medical issues over the years, he demonstrated constant resilience. He showed his family how to persevere through challenges with strength, courage and humor.

Joseph’s affinity for knowledge and his appreciation for his Scots-Irish heritage led to a lifelong love of Scotland. He loved the natural beauty, history and music of his ancient homeland and traveled there multiple times often exploring his family’s genealogy among the castle ruins.

Joseph was a gifted photographer. He took beautiful photos of nature, wildlife and his loved ones. He enjoyed sharing that love by teaching his daughters and family about photography.

Joseph was the beloved husband of 52 years to Nancy and the adored father of Melissa McQuiston (Daniel) and Amanda Sheldon (Dan). He was the incredible grandfather of Skye, Kaeden, Isla, Bradley and Hannah. He was the dear brother of Woodrow “Sonny” McQuiston (the late Roberta), Thomas McQuiston (Cathy) and sister-in- law, Mary Lee McQuiston. He leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother and father, Mary and Woodrow McQuiston, his brother Robert McQuiston, and his parents-in-law, Clayton and Emily Carroll.

A celebration of life with take place at the Bateman-Allen Funeral Home, 4220 Edgmont Ave., Brookhaven, PA, 19015 on Saturday (September 12, 2026) from 11am-12pm. Burial private. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The American Kidney Foundation.
