Elbert “Bud” Smith Jr. September 1, 1928 - April 7, 2011

Elbert “Bud” H. Smith Jr., 82, passed away April 7, 2011 at Riddle Memorial Hospital, Media, Pa. Born in Upland, he was a resident of Brookhaven, Pa, for the past 53 years. He graduated from Eddystone High School and worked for Sun Company as a lab technician for 40 years before his retirement. He was the Assistant Scout Master at Upland Baptist Church where he was also a former Deacon, member of the Sun Honor Club, and the Sun Bowling League. He was the former Code Enforcement Officer of Brookhaven and was also the former treasurer of the Brookhaven Swim Club. He also spent time as the coach of Joclyn’s Softball team. He was also active in the Democratic Party. He was in the Army Reserves for 4 years. He was the beloved husband of Irene Smith (nee Bednarz) for 52 years. He was the loving father of E. Gregory (Cathy) Smith of Brookhaven, Pa, and N. Cynthia (Chris) Carey of Middletown, Pa and brother-in-law of Nancy Bush of Brookhaven, Pa. He was the proud grandfather of Derek and Sarah Smith, Christopher and Connor Carey. Funeral service Monday 11am at the Bateman-Allen Funeral Home, 4220 Edgmont Ave., Brookhaven, Pa, 19015. Visitation Sunday evening 7-9pm and also Monday 10-11am at the funeral home. Interment private.
