Lawrence Ramaika July 26, 1920 - December 4, 2010

Lawrence “Larry” Thomas Ramaika, 90, of Naples, Fl, formerly of Middletown Township, passed away December 4, 2010 in Naples. Born and raised in Glen Lyon, Pa, Larry was the eldest of four children of Joseph and Petronella Anskis Ramaika. Larry served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII and after the war attended Drexel University becoming a skilled and creative mechanical engineer. He eventually founded his own company, Media Engineering Associates.
Larry moved his family to Middletown Township in 1955 into a home he built himself, having obtained part of the financing from sale of lumber from the cleared lot. Larry was an avid private aircraft pilot and talented aircraft mechanic. He was known to keep helicopters in the his backyard and had astounded people for years by re-building real airplanes- not models – in the basement of his Middletown home, most recently a 1947 Aeronca Champion.
Larry was instrumental in Founding the Middletown Township Sewer Authority in 1966 and served as its first Chairman.
He is predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Beatrice “Betty” Stauffer Ramaika who passed away in 1984 and a son, Lawrence Thomas Ramaika Jr., who passed in 1966. In 2009 Larry moved to Naples, Fl, where he married his long time friend, Joan Anna Baxter Ramaika, who survives him. He is also survived by his daughter, Betsy Ramaika Harrison (Marc) of Middletown Twp.; his sister Marie Jurchak of Boston, Mass; 3 stepsons Steve, Jeffrey, and Timothy Baxter, step-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Saturday 10am at Calvary Episcopal Church, off Pennell Rd., at 667 Mount Rd, Aston, Pa, 19014. Visitation will be held Saturday 9-10am at the church. Interment Media Cemetery, Media, Pa.
