John “Jack” Townsend, 71, passed away on June 23, 2026, at his home. Born in Philadelphia, he lived most of his life in W. Philadelphia and resided for the last 6 years in Media. He was a graduate of the St. Katharine Day School and worked for the School District of Philadelphia for 30 years before his retirement in 2011.

Jack loved riding his bicycle, going for walks, and watching old western movies. During the last 5 years he really enjoyed belonging to the SW Senior Center, where he made many good friends and spent a lot of his time.

He is predeceased by his parents James and Mary Townsend and his two brothers Jim and Michael Townsend.

Jack is survived by his wife of 13 years Ellie Blake-Townsend; his stepchildren Alliya Mitchell and Lakia Blake; nephew Michael Townsend; great niece Molly Shea; and his sister-in-law Lois Townsend and Katie Townsend.

Funeral mass will take place Monday (July 6, 2026) at 10am with a visitation beginning at 9am at the Saint Cyprian Roman Catholic Church located at 525 Cobbs Creek Parkway (southwest corner of 63rd St. and Hazel Ave.), Philadelphia, PA, 19143. Burial Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA.

    To Jackie’s family: I extend to you my heartfelt condolences on Jackie’s passing. I knew Jackie from our days growing up in Overbrook. He was always a very nice, enjoyable, and spirited person. I pray that Jackie is at peace in Heaven, reunited with his brothers, Jimmy and Michael. May God rest their souls..
