Ingrid “Ginger” Sarmento, age 83 of Ridley Park, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on April 24, 2026, at Bryn Mawr Hospital. Ginger spent her youth in Glenolden before relocating to San Diego, California where she spent much of her adult life. She attended St. Michael’s Elementary School and was a graduate of Interboro High School. Upon moving to San Diego where she found the perfect weather, Ginger turned her passion for dancing into a career when she opened Ballroom Dancing Strictly for Fun. She provided ballroom and social dance instructions to numerous clients through the years. Ginger recently returned to Delaware County to spend her final years in laughter and love with family.
Ginger enjoyed time with family. Her great nieces and nephews brought her extra joy. Whether looking at Christmas lights, watching a dance performance, or cheering on the Eagles in the Super Bowl, you could always find a big smile on Ginger’s face, if she was with family. She loved the celebration of holidays, birthdays, and momentous occasions with loved ones. Hers was always the loudest voice when singing happy birthday to friends, family and strangers. Some of her favorite times were spent laughing at sitcoms with her sisters.
Ginger will be remembered for her beautiful smile, skilled storytelling, love of dance, and impeccable organization skills. A lifelong learner, she was an enthusiastic debater who championed causes about which she was passionate. She was a generous protector of the less fortunate, once giving her last five dollars to an unhoused person. Ginger truly lived the adage of giving the shirt off one’s back.
In addition to her parents, Eduard and Amy Richardson Goldenberg, Ginger was predeceased by her siblings Hans, Gisele, and Eddie. She is survived by her sisters Ella Goldenberg, Karla Shull, and Amy Gulla; and many nieces and nephews. Ginger is fondly remembered by two dear friends Joyce and Sandy. Her family is grateful to the staff of Bryn Mawr Hospital for taking such compassionate care of Ginger in her final days. Services will be private.
