Geraldine Stout October 27, 1925 - May 11, 2014

Geraldine (Gerry) Hamel Stout, age 88, peacefully rode the sunrise home to be with her Lord on Sunday morning, May 11th at the home of her children, Kenneth and Linda Roberts. She was married to the late Lester E. Stout for 63 years. She was born to the late Maurice and Sadie Hamel, spending her childhood in South Philadelphia. She is predeceased by her brother, Maurice. She graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1944.

She will be missed by her children, Kenneth and Linda Roberts of Garnet Valley and David Stout, Sr. She was known as “Oma” to her grandchildren, Cristina Roberts, Julie (Roberts) and Donovan Witmer, Alisa (Stout) and Adam Cavanaugh and David Stout, Jr. Oma adored her great-grandchildren, Alden and Kincaid Thomas, Noemi Witmer and Anastasia and Lucas Cavanaugh.

Gerry met her husband during WWII in Philadelphia. He was in the US Army and she was (as she affectionately called herself) a Tuesday Night Girl—one of the girls hired to dance at a canteen for the soldiers. For this reason, Lester nicknamed her “Shakey.” They made a loving home for themselves in Brookhaven and lived there most of their lives.

Gerry had a knack for not taking life too seriously, referring to herself as “The Old Grey Mare.” She felt most at home with nature and could be found outside in her garden tending to flowers, talking with the birds and feeding the squirrels (much to Lester’s dismay). Cooking and music were passions of hers, and when she wasn’t singing she was busy at work in the kitchen. Gerry was an active member of Calvary Presbyterian Church for most of her adult life and loved singing in the choir. She would want everyone to know that her favorite hymn, “My Tribute” was her life’s anthem. Her fun-loving spirit will be deeply missed.

Services will be held Friday 10am at the Bateman-Allen Funeral Home, 4220 Edgmont Ave., Brookhaven, Pa, 19015. Visitation Friday 9-10am at the funeral home. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations can sent be to Crozier-Keystone Hospice, 5030 State Rd., Suite 3001 Drexel Hill, PA 19026.
