Francis Paul Chiponis, age 90, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2024, at home on hospice care after a 2-year struggle with chronic heart disease. He was born on June 26,1933 in Chester, PA and was a resident of Brookhaven for 66 years. Chip graduated from Saint James High School in 1951. He attended Keystone School of Business in Swarthmore with an associate degree in business administration. He managed and operated Tony’s Cafe in the east end of Chester for 20 years. He later worked at Phoenix Steel in Claymont, DE and Fair Acres Geriatric Center in Lima, PA until his retirement.

Chip was a former member of Our Lady of Vilnus Roman Catholic Church in Chester and Our Lady of Charity Church in Brookhaven. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing, crabbing, and hunting in upstate PA. He enjoyed listening and dancing to polka music and attending family picnics and gatherings with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends.

Chip was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years Dorothy Chiponis (nee Suda); father Anthony Chiponis, his mother Adella (Yakonis) Chiponis, sister Florence Tracy, and grandson Billy Pauciello.

He is survived by his children; James Chiponis (Diane), Karen Pauciello (Bill), Cynthia Ferguson (Joseph), and Joseph Chiponis. Also surviving are his seven grandchildren: Joe Ferguson (Carolyn), Ashley Ferguson, Jessica Wilmer (Bill), Zach Chiponis (Kelsey), Jaimee Chiponis, Melanie Chiponis, and Gianna Chiponis and three great-grandchildren Lucas Ferguson, Owen Ferguson and Cassandra Wilmer.

Funeral Mass Saturday 10:30am at Our Lady of Charity Church, 231 Upland Rd., Brookhaven, PA, 19015 with a visitation starting at 9:30am at the church. Burial Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood, PA, 19061.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Chip’s name can be made to: American Heart Association, Crozer Hospice, or Our Lady of Charity Church.

Arrangements were made by the Bateman-Allen Funeral Home, Brookhaven, PA.

    On behalf of the St. James High School Alumni Association and his 1951 classmates, I extend our deepest sympathies and prayers on your loss. On May 4, 2025, the Alumni Association will remember Francis at their annual Memorial Mass at St. Madeline’s Church in Ridley Park. May he rest in peace!

    Chip was my dad’s favorite cousin (Ron Dainton), and Chip and Dot were a regular part of family gatherings when I was a child. May he rest in peace.
