Barbara Athey July 28, 1926 - July 20, 2009

Barbara Athey (nee Cruickshanks), 82, passed away July 20, 2009 at Riddle Memorial Hospital, Media, Pa. Born in Hagerstown, Md, she resided there until moving to York, Pa, where she has resided for the past 42 years.

She worked for Hochild Kohn and Montgomery Wards, both in York, Pa.

She was an active member of Yorkshire Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the 55+ Sunday School, Grandview Golf Club, The Knitters, served in the soup kitchen, active in aerobics, a member of Art Center of York, and Green Thumb Garden Club. She was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan and loved nothing more then spending time with her family. She was the wife of her beloved Paul “Stump” R. Athey for 57 years before his passing in 2002. She was the loving mother of Paul (Sharon) Athey of Menomonee Falls, WI, formerly of York, Pa, Sandra (Art) Crumbacker of Williamsport, Md, Cynthia (Lee) Bateman of Media, Pa, and Roberta (Edward) Kappell of BelAir, Md. She was the grandmother of David and Heath Crumbacker and Wesley and Eve Bateman. Funeral Service will be held Saturday 10am at Yorkshire Methodist Church, 125 Edgewood Rd., York, Pa, 17402. Visitation Saturday 9:30am-10am at the church. Graveside service 2pm Saturday Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, Md.
