Raymond E. Yorden August 22, 1924 - October 8, 2012

Raymond E. “Ray” Yorden, 88, passed away October 8, 2012 at his home. Born in St. Benedict, Pa, he has been a long time resident of Brookhaven, Pa. He graduated from Carrolltown High School, class of 1942. He worked for Sacksville Mills in Wallingford, Pa, before becoming the co-owner of Ekridge Construction with his brother Steve. He then went on to buy a quarry on Knowlton Rd. which became Pyramid Land Development. He was the former Assistant Fire Chief of the Brookhaven Fire Company. He was a former member of the Polish American Club and a founding member of the Suburban Contractors Association. He loved to garden and spend time with his family. He was extremely dedicated to his business and his wife.
He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII and the Korean War serving in the Pacific Theatre during WWII in the battles off of Saipan and Iwo Jima among others. He was known as a “Tin Can Sailor”. He was in the Naval Reserve and attended reunions for the USS Wadleigh.
He was predeceased by his parents Michael Yorden and Victoria Yorden Pavlock; his brothers Stephen P. Yorden, James J. Pavlock; his sister Martha Saunders.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Doris R. Yorden; his sons Raymond L. “Skeeter” (Kathleen), Mark S. (Cynthia), Paul D.; daughter Amy E. (Jerome) Swantner; sisters Stella Ponchock and Mary Slowik; his 4 grandchildren Kathryn Watson (Dan), Jillian Swantner, Raymond M. Yorden, Amy Lynn Yorden; his great grandson Benjamin Watson; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral mass Friday 10:30am at Our Lady of Charity Church, 231 Upland Rd., Brookhaven, Pa, 19015. Visitation Thursday evening 7-9 at the Bateman-Allen Funeral Home, 4220 Edgmont Ave., Brookhaven, Pa, 19015 and also Friday morning 9:30-10:30 at the church. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery, Aston, Pa.
