Lester “Cookie” Edward Stout

1924-2008

Lester died peacefully on December 30 surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Geraldine Stout, his daughter and son-in law, Linda and Kenneth Roberts (Garnet Valley) and his son, David Stout (Chester). He also is survived by four grandchildren, Cristina Thomas, Julie Witmer, Alisa Cavanaugh and David Stout, Jr. Three great-grandchildren will greatly miss their Poppop.

Lester was a proud rebel from Greensboro, North Carolina, where he was the oldest of 12 children. Beloved surviving siblings live in Virginia and North Carolina. He moved to Philadelphia during his Army service in WWII. He worked as a mess sargeant in Brookline, where he earned himself the nickname “Cookie.” He resided in Brookhaven for 45 years and was president of the Cambridge Estates Civic Association for many years. He was a self-employed plumber and the inspector for Brookhaven. Lester enjoyed fishing, gardening, and eating King’s Barbecue. He was a committed Phillies fanatic.

Lester was a gentle man who made his family laugh with his soft-spoken humor. He is telling us all from above, “Don’t worry about it.”

A memorial service will be held at Bateman-Allen Funeral Home in Brookhaven on Monday at 10AM. Calling hour begins at 9AM. Private military burial will take place at Fort Indiantown Gap. In lieu of flowers all gifts can be sent to Heartland Hospice Services, Inc., 333 N. Summit ST., Toledo, Ohio, 43604 in his name.
