James Edward Downey, 87,

passed away December 21, 2008 at his home. Born in Chester, Pa, to the late Agnes and James Downey, he was a resident of Parkside, Pa, for the past 53 years. He graduated from St. Roberts School, class of 1940, and Temple University, class of 1953.

He worked for Shallcross Manufacturing, Collingdale, Pa, as an electrical instrument manager, a Senior technician of Burroughs Corporation (now Unysis) as a Configuration Control Analyst, and at Park Davis where he designed the computer medical cart. He retired in 1986 to enjoy his loving family and started working to make Parkside a family community. In 1973 he was elected President of Parkside Council and served for four terms. Later, he was the president of the zoning board. He was a member of the Jr. Chamber of Commerce, built “Camp Sunshine”, Our Lady of Charity Parish, Brookhaven, Pa, VFW Post and DAV, and the Elks Club in Chester, Pa. He proudly served in the Army Airforce as a turret specialist for the Flight Surgeons Air Crew. He was the husband of his loving wife Myrtle “Terry” Frampton Downey of Parkside, Pa. He was the father of James Downey Jr. of West Melbourne, Fl, and Jean Griffith of Boothwyn, Pa. He was the brother of the late Edward and Paul Downey. He was the grandfather of 7 and great grandfather of 8. Funeral service Friday 11 am at the Bateman-Allen Funeral Home, 4220 Edgmont Ave., Brookhaven, Pa, 19015. Friends may call Friday 10-11am at the funeral home.
