Hallie Mae Comer Brown January 7, 1920 - November 8, 2009

Hallie Mae Comer Brown, 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 8th, 2009, at Tel-Hai Retirement Community, Honey Brook Township, Chester County, Pa.

Born in Grayson County, VA, she was the daughter of the late John Franklin Comer and Effie Sullins Comer. She was the oldest of ten and had to leave school after 7th grade to work.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion (Brownie) Brown, with whom she had shared 46 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters and by 5 grandchildren (Debbie Davis, Donna Davis, Karen Butler, Kenneth Brown, and Jennifer McGehean) and 1 great grandchild (Dylan Scott Butler).

She is survived by and lovingly remembered by her eight children; Nellie Truitt (Robert) of Reston, VA; Marion Robert Brown (Diane) of Murphy, NC; Patricia Butler (William Robert) of Glenmoore, Pa; William Franklin Brown (Kathleen) of Queensbury, NY; Rita Simpson (David) of Lyndell, Pa; Frances Worrell (Frank) of Ocean City, NJ; Christina Couch-Cerami (Philip) Brookhaven, Pa; and Nancy Carolyn McGehean (Michael DeGangi) of Chaddsford, Pa/

One of her greatest joys in life was her grandchildren; she is survived by 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.

Hallie enjoyed cleaning, gardening, walking, and painting things green. Her gardens included flowers and vegetables and wild violets. She will be especially remembered for her joy of singing. Many of her favorites were old mountain songs taught to her by her mother and she, in turn, taught them to her children. Her favorite hymn was “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder”.

The wife of a farmer, she lived 21 years in Gradyville on a farm that is now part of Ridley Creek State Park. After her husband’s retirement, she lived 7 years in Gordonville (Paradise) Pa. After becoming a widow, she moved to Media, Pa, and spent 23 years there where she became an active member of Home Town Senior Center where she volunteered with Meals on Wheels, and other areas of service. While living in Media, she attended the First Baptist Church.

Family and friends may call from 10:30-12:30 Saturday, November 14, 2009 at the Bateman-Allen Funeral Home, 4220 Edgmont Ave., Brookhaven, Pa, 19015. The Life Celebration Service is immediately following at 12:30pm.
