Alfred B. Whittington, Sr. December 1, 1925 - May 31, 2021

Alfred Baxter Whittington, Sr., 95 years young, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2021. Born in Chester, PA, he was the son of Joseph R. and Myrtle (nee Baxter) Whittington. After graduating from Nether Providence High School, he was proud to serve his country as a US Marine from 1943-1946. He was active in his community as a member at Faith Community Church, served on Brookhaven Borough Council, and ran for Mayor. He worked at Tollins Furniture before moving onto a lifelong career at Sun Oil as a Research and Development chemist.  

He loved hunting, fishing, and his garden which was the pride and joy of his yard. He was a member of Mercury Gun Club and Hunter Safety Instructor.  

He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his two brothers Joseph Rodger and Frank, his grandson Shaughn Whittington, and his loving wife Marion (nee Sisk) Whittington.  

He is survived by his beloved children Alfred B. Whittington, Jr. (Marlyn Della Porta) and Mark (Jill) Whittington; his grandchildren Alfred B. Whittington, III (Alison), Melissa (Francis) Pizzi, Rhiannon Whittington, and Ryan (Annie) Whittington; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  

Funeral service Saturday 11am at the Bateman-Allen Funeral Home, 4220 Edgmont Ave., Brookhaven, PA, 19015. Visitation Saturday 10-11am at the funeral home. Burial Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood, PA. Online condolences can be sent via www.bateamanfuneralhome.com
