Elizabeth “Betty” Cobourn

Elizabeth (Betty) Cobourn passed away at the home of her daughter on Sunday, August 2, 2026. Born in Media, Pennsylvania, Betty attended Media High School graduating in 1945 while working at a local luncheonette. She later worked for the Recorder of Deeds in the Delaware County Courthouse in Media.

Betty married Reece T. Cobourn (1926-2007) in June of 1950 and moved to Brookhaven, Pennsylvania where she resided until 2023. They had three children: Ronald Allen (1951-2017), Reece Thomas, Jr., always called Tom, and Janet Lee Singer. Betty lived with Janet in Berks Co, Pennsylvania for the last three years. She was a wonderful mother to her children and their spouses: Ron’s widow, Linda; Tom’s wife, Mary, and Janet’s husband, Mark Singer. Betty was predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Lillian Blackley, as well as her sisters, Lillian Piersol and Anne Forrest, and brother, Sam Blackley. She was known as Mom Mom to her six grandchildren: Dennis (Laura), Anne (Paul), Bonnie (Jared), Allen, Will (Charity), and Jack. She had two great grandchildren (Cassandra and Rita) who spent many happy days visiting and going out with their great grandmother. Betty is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Betty was a terrific cook and hostess, delighting her family with birthday celebrations, holidays and lunch even if you just came for a spontaneous visit. Her Poor Man’s Cake and Nut Squares were in high demand. She was an excellent seamstress and loved reading. She took pride in finding just the right gift for family members at Christmas. Betty and Reece were active members of Brookhaven Baptist Church where she was a Deaconess, taught Vacation Bible School, and was part of the Women’s Joy Circle. They later attended Middletown Presbyterian Church in Middletown, PA. Betty attended Shepherd of the Hills Calvary Chapel in Bechtelsville, PA since 2023.
Reece and Betty had an active social life with many friends from both Brookhaven Baptist Church and Sun Oil in Marcus Hook, where Reece was a 1st class pipe fitter. The couple took many trips around the country with friends, including Hawaii to celebrate their 25th anniversary. They loved to bowl together, and Betty continued to bowl into her eighties.

Relatives and friends are invited to visitation for Elizabeth on Monday, August 10, 2026, from 10:00 – 11:30 AM at the Bateman-Allen Funeral Home, Brookhaven, PA., followed by her funeral service. Burial will be in Media Cemetery, Media, PA.
