Doris M. McElwee

Doris Marie McElwee, 87, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Upland, PA, she raised her family in Parkside, PA. While retired, she and her husband resided in Pot Nets, DE. She lived her later years in West Chester, PA, and the last six weeks at Merrill Gardens in Glen Mills.

Doris was a graduate of Eddystone High School, where she was a tap dancer and Majorette. She worked as a Coordinator in the Materials Center at the Davidson School @ Elwyn. She was an honorary lifetime member of the Parkside Firehouse Ladies Auxiliary. When she returned to PA, she was very involved with Mount Hope Church with the Bread of Life. She also loved to gamble and cheer on her Eagles.

Doris maintained close friendships from her childhood, getting together weekly for card games. She was always willing to try new things and worked hard to stay current. Recently, at age 86, she started taking chair yoga classes. She loved her computer, iPhone, and iPad. She texted her grandchildren and had her own Facebook and Instagram accounts. During the pandemic, when Doris couldn’t be with her family, she learned how to use zoom. Her family was her first and strongest love. She enjoyed spending time with all generations of her family and will be missed by all.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 53 years Richard McElwee, Sr.; her son Ricky McElwee; her brother Frank Blizzard (late Margaret); and her sister Diane Lanzilotti (Frank).

She is survived by her devoted children Patty Iannucci (Sam) and Jeannie Michels (Mark); her sister Ann Acuff (Joe); her grandchildren Sammy (Melissa), Michele (Marc), Maureen (Sarah), Laura Jean (Drew), Kevin (Melanie); and her 6 great grandchildren.

Doris’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Merril Gardens and Echo Hospice for their dedicated and loving care.
