Daniel Johnston

Daniel Johnston, 91, passed away on October 6th at home, surrounded by family. Dan was born in Ballyweaney, Northern Ireland. He attended the Ballyweaney Public School and worked on his family farm. At age 17, he served his apprenticeship and learned the trades of a joiner, wheelright, coach builder and stair builder. After serving his apprenticeship, Dan came to the United States in December, 1946.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army and shipped to Japan during the Occupation. Throughout his life, he worked at various construction jobs. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, Local 465. Dan worked for 24 years at Visual Communications before retiring at the age of 80. He loved to read, follow sports, take long walks and garden.

He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Johnston and his parents John Smyth Johnston and Ann Jane Patterson.

He is survived by his children: Paul (Renee’), Joe (Linda), Mary Tomeo, Tom, Mark (Maritza), John (Francine), Anne (Jorge) Varela, Bethann “Cricket” (Tim) Peticca and Tim; 24 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.
