Chester J. Lipp April 3, 1919 - May 6, 2006

Chester (Chet) J. Lipp, 87, of Brookhaven, Pa, passed away May 6, 2006 at Crozer Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pa. He was a graduate of St. Hedwigs and Chester High Schools. He worked for Sun Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, Sun Oil Company, and E. I. DuPont de Nemours and Company at the the Chestnut Run Facility in the Engineering Laboratory for 35 years where he retired in 1984. He attended St. Hedwigs Church, St. Michael’s in Chester, Pa, and was an active member of Our Lady of Charity Church, Brookhaven, Pa. for 41 years. He was a member of the Parkside and Eddystone seniors. As a boy he was active in West End Sports, played Baseball for Resurrection Church/School, Chester Boys Club, St. Hedwig’s and Chester High School. As a Adult he played baseball for Sun Ship, Sun Oil and Dupont teams between the plants. He was a gifted 1st. baseman and catcher. As a young man he was scouted by the Philadelphia Athletics, currently the Philadelphia Phillies. He really enjoyed bus trips to Delaware Park and Atlantic City Casinos. He was an avid sports fan and really got pleasure from watching the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. He enjoyed vacationing in Atlantic City. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a charitable man, supporting Fraternal Order of Police, Catholic Charities, and many Military and Veterans Groups. He often helped his community by working at the polls on election day. In 1997 he was honored by Governor Tom Ridge in to the “Pennsylvania Voters Hall of Fame” for 50 years of consecutive voting in every November election. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Mary C. Lipp, parents; John and Catherine Marchut Lipp, brothers; Joseph, Adam, Edward, Matthew, and Stanley Lipp, and his sisters; Laura Kmiec, Bertha Balawejder, and Elizabeth Lipp. He was survived by his daughter, Phyllis M. Ritchie of Cochranville, Pa, his sister, Helen Babicki of Chester, Pa, and his brother, Henry Lipp of Chester, Pa. He was the loving grandfather of Michael J., Maryanne C., John T. Ritchie and Linda (Tom) Gunkle. Greatgrandfather of Michael Ritchie Jr. Funeral service will be held Friday 11 am at Our Lady of Charity Church, 231 Upland Rd., Brookhaven, Pa, 19015.
